The death and betrayal of Poe is a story in itself. His life showcases the rise and fall of his writings. His writings reflected death, tragedy and loss though imagery and his use of rhyme, by way or description of life. Edgar Allen Poe was the first poet of his time to receive recognition in a magazine because of his writings. Perhaps his most famous poem "The Raven" wherein he bemoans lost love brought him recognition. But beyond this man of mystery lies something of a tormented soul as shown in his short stories and books. Edgar Allen Poe's life was a wreck after he left his wife Elmira to do some exploring. During the time he was gone he would write Elmira constantly; however, Elmira's parents intercepted the letters. Edgar wonder why she did not reply to all his letters, but when he got back he found out that his wife Elmira had gotten married to someone else. This is only one reason why Poe got into a very depressed state. Soon after his wife left him he went back to school at University of Virginia to excel in his writings. She burst a blood vessel in 1842, and remained a virtual invalid until her death from tuberculosis five years later. " Most skeptics think that Poe really died from the lost of all his loved ones' that he just could not handle the pain any more. Moreover, Poe's works will never die. There has been a few stories that have been made into movies, such as "The Fall of the House of Usher ", "The Tell-Tale Heart", and "The Raven" these have been rated highly as any other movie of their time which would be in the 1960's, movie critic Scott Whear who said "that these movie were a great success in relating the tales of Edgar Allan Poe to the screen, and it all started here with The Fall of the House of Usher. One of Edgar Allan Poe's last poem's is called "Annabel Lee". So in 1945, the Mystery Writers of America, Inc. These awards are known as The Edgar Allan Poe Awards. As an adult Edgar is thought to have been impotent .
