To kill A Mockinbird-Courage

             Jem, Atticus and Mrs Dubose in To Kill A Mockingbird show courage against their fears. They all show courage in their own way. Courage is the key theme in To Kill A Mockingbird. This will be proven through the examanations of three characters.
             Jem is exemplary when it comes to being courageous. Jem is showing courage all the time through his actions. "Jem said quietly," ... and I ain't afraid of you."" (pg. #106) Jem is standing up to a mean old bully- Mrs Dubose. ""We are going to give Boo Radley a note"" (pg. #46) Jem is going against years of fears and rumors. " In all his life Jem had never declined a dare." (pg. #12) Jem is always up for a dare, he is always courageous enough to carry it out. Jem is not willing to let himself be pushed around or decline a chance to be courageous.
             Mrs Dubose shows courage about her beliefs. Mrs Dubose is very stubborn and that is part of why she is so courageous. "Mrs Dubose was a morphine addict ... but she was to contrary." (pg #111) Mrs Dubose was very courageous, she quit morphine even though she had been addicted to it for years. "she died beholden to nothing and noone" (pg #112) Mrs Dubose stopped the morphine even though it meant more pain for her. "Its when you know your licked ... you see it ... you rarely win but sometimes you do. Mrs Dubose won" Mrs Dubose was courageous even though she knew she was beat but she fought anyway and she won. Mrs Dubose had the courage to fight.
             Atticus is very courageous and ready to stand up for his beliefs. He is willing to look at others point of view. " Good evening Mrs Dubose! You look apicture this evening" (pg #100) Atticus is being very civil to Mrs Dubose even though she chastizes him for his {p}nigger loving{paraphrase}. "... you just hold your head high and keep your fists down" (pg #76) Atticus is proud of what he is doing against what every body wants him to do. "... I certainly am" (pg #108)
