Growing Up in a Public School
The people of the United States decided a couple of hundred years ago that we would different from the rest of the world. The government decided citizens should have certain rights that allow them to be free from most of the world's problems. One particular right that in Gwinnett County Public Schools Systems has become a problem is freedom of expression. Many folks down here want to wear whatever but for me I wasn't like that. Growing up in at times a small town and going to public school I was around just about every type of clothing. However I never used an excuse of freedom of expression on what
As my class got older, society changed with a new decade and clothing and rules changed to. I wore because I was inline with school codes and with what must of my friends wore. Many kids I grew up with made a big deal out of the whole situation causing the people behind us to suffer. In middle school we had a dress code enforced on us but for me it was ok because I usually wore a pair of jeans or wind suit pants and a t-shirt or sports jersey. Now I'm in college and I try to keep things simple. My mother still had a lot of say I what I wore because she was still paying for my clothes. Once I got a job things changed a little because I was in high school. In grade school I can remember wearing what was given to me with not too much complaints. Most of my shirts go with all my pants and its not hard to find matching clothes. I have the right to express myself but clothing has never been the way I have chosen to do so. Even with the music I still maintained a sense of the real world because I had picked up golf and had to dress a certain way for that so I had a variety of clothing to choose from. Yes, I had many influences but clothing was never one of them. I started wearing baggy pants, loose shirts, and all different types of hats. The school board believed that our parents would make the right decisions for us.
