Dreams. What’s Yours?

Are they a complete waste of time, or are dreams the only thing that make us exceptional and who we were born to be? Answers Jonathan Upton.

Dreams. Everyone has them and they’re all different. They come and they go through different stages of our lives. Sometimes dreams bond with us, there’s no shaking this dream. Fulfilling this dream becomes a passion. Nothing else matters accept this dream. Big or small, your dream matters most even if your dream is to relive the past, ‘You can’t repeat the past’, ‘Why of course you can!’-F.Scott Fitzgerald-The Great Gatsby. Courage and confidence. These are the fuel that drive our dreams and without them dreams would never be fulfilled or even exist. If people keep on aiming for the moon, and they fail, at least they will end up in the stars. Courage is the forward push in dreams, and fear is the backward pull. Fear is the invisible force between you and the Moon, unless you can overcome fear you will always end up in the stars. With enough courage and confidence in yourself you will always succeed in fulfilling your dream, if you want something bad enough you can get it.

Between the ages of 5-10, I dreamt of being as good a Bodyboarder as my brother. But when I needed it most, after lots of determination and hard work the courage and confidence that is buried deep within us all came out within me in aces. Then it came, rising up out of the water in front of me was the biggest wave I had seen. Meet them head on, with a helmet on your head if necessary. I went to be early that night with a stomach full of Orange Juice and Spaghetti.

I have lived in Coogee all my life. 10-15, and all that was on my mind was becoming a professional in the sport. A crowd seemed to be drawing up on the cliff over looking the surf spot in which I was at. The ‘Big Wednesday’ I was waiting for came, but on a Friday. I felt the wave jacking-up behind me to an enormous size. I kicked in the water with my flippers and popped out of the barrel (door), gliding along into calm water.
