Dial-up Compared to High Speed Access
The essay topic I have chosen to write on, is comparing a dial-up connection to a high speed connection to the internet. Dial-up and high speed access can be both used to connect to the internet, they both perform the same function. Which is to connect you to the internet. The way the connection are offered are different, one is thru the phone company. This method is called dial-up and the other is thru the cable company, being called high speed access nicked named a (cable connection). A dial-up connection has its faults and it's advantages, just as high speed has its faults and advantages. With dial-up you have to connect thru the use of your on phone line, this is a disadvantage. Your on line with no long distance charges and with your connection to the internet, you also get a internet provider instead of having to find one. As stated above in the amount of time it took to connect to the internet and at the speed the internet was surfed. With a dial-up connection you have to have a local provider, for the internet if you do not have a local provider you will have to seek out a internet provider. But yet they both achieved the same goal ,but at different ways of connecting to the internet. For a example to open a file that has been sent to you that contains a picture normally would take the dial-up connection eight to ten minutes to open would take the high speed connection about a minute if that. Yet you have this connection at all times verses the dial-up were you have to connect each time you need the use of the internet. And also at the rate it took to download program from the internet. With the price of the dial-up connection averaging around twenty one dollars. Now that you have a connection to the internet thru cable you'll have to worry about hackers because your computer is connected to the internet all the time. The dial-up connection is slow verses the connection to the high speed access which is normally ten time faster. With the high speed access being provided thru a separate connection, thru the use of a cable line other than the one that connects to your television. The deciding factor in choosing one over the other would come down to price and the amount of patience one would have in there connection speed to they internet. When comparing the similarities of price plans, dial-up connection has the advantage over the high speed connection to the internet.
