The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet

The book I read is The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. It is a play written by William Shakespeare around 1595. The book is edited by Barbara A. Mowat and Paul Werstine. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is published by Pocket Books in New York, NewYork.

The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet has three protagonists, Romeo Montague, Juliet Caplulet and Friar Lawrence. Romeo is the young handsome son of a rich Montague family. Juliet is the young beautiful daughter of the rich Caplulet family. Friar Lawrence is the religious person in Romeo’s life.

The antagonists are Romeo and Juliet’s families. The families have been feuding for years. Members of the families fight whenever they see each other. Many family members have been killed in the fights.

The problem is that Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight, at a masquerade party given by Juliet’s father. They pledge their love to each other forever. Romeo is then banished from his hometown, Verona, forever by the Prince of Verona. When Juliet wakes up in her family crypt, the Friar planned to have Romeo there to take Juliet away.

Juliet took the potion and appeared to be dead on the day she was supposed to marry Paris.

Juliet learns of Tybalt’s death and Romeo’s banishment. A few nights later, Romeo slips in the Caplulet’s yard. Romeo tells Juliet that he will come up with a plan for them to be married. Juliet woke up shortly after Romeo’s death. Romeo died in Juliet’s family crypt. The Friar hopes that the marriage will end the feuding between the two families. If it wasn’t written in old English, I think I would have a better understanding of the dialogue.

A nightwathcher discovered the bodies later that night. The Capulets and Montagues came to the crypt. Her family placed her body in the family’s crypt.
