It was a day that will stay in my mind forever. A Sunday that I will never forget. An ice storm had come through the area a few days earlier. Roads were covered with snow and ice; the back roads were terrible to drive on. The roads tend to slope to the ditches, and when they are ice covered it’s really dangerous driving. Well I decided to take one of those dangerously icy roads. It was around one in the afternoon coming back from lunch after church. I was driving home with my friend Brad who had joined my family for church that day. My family drove two separate cars that week because I was in the sound booth running the power point for the service and I had to be at the church at the awful hour of 7:30 am!! Well of course the rest of the family didn't need to be there till 8 so they came later. Well after the second service we went to lunch at Fazoli’s, which is one of our favorite Sunday dinner spots. Brad decided to come home with me to keep me company so I didn't have to drive by my self. Which I have to say was a wonderful idea seeing as the roads were a mess and I needed all the distractions possible to keep my mind off the fact that one little swerve and I could die!!! So we were driving along…mak
. . .
That really was a miracle because that mirrior could have taken off Brad's head!!! Once I finally regained my composure after being in total shock for a few seconds, I looked at brad and asked him if he was ok and he said he was. ing it just fine on the main highway. I knew we were going in the ditch and still I kept trying to steer it over towards the middle, the whole time thinking, "oh my gosh we're gonna die!!!" This ditch wasn't very steep but it was lined with trees at the bottom. Well the city trucks had actually gone down this road and salted it, which is amazing. Then we just sat there for a few minuets wondering what to say. The passenger's side mirror came through the door window and ended up on the driver's side dashboard. Well that proved harder than it looked. Then Brad looks at me and says, "You wanted a new van, but you could have chosen another way to get it!" when he said that I just busted up laughing. Well of course we were but my mom was an EMT for approximately 5 years and so she has to see for her self. While we were working on getting it out, our neighbor drove by and saw what had happened and made sure that everything was ok. After that I looked in what was left of my rearview mirror and saw my parents coming down the road. Well naturally I tried to turn it back the other way. When grandpa got to the church of course he had to tell every about my accident. Then I went home and slept off the stress.
