Analysis of Shrek 2
A fairy tale is a story, either intended for children or narrated to children, concerning the adventures of mythical characters. Nearly all fairy tales have magic and supernatural characters. They have good versus evil; a villain versus a hero and in the end the good always triumphs.Sometimes fairy tales are simply miraculous entertainment but often, fairy tales are disguised morality tales.Fairy tales appeal to children perhaps because of the magical element and children therefore, enjoy watching and listening to them. Younger children are affected by what happens and if they like a character they expect them to win. All fairy tales are made especially for young children and they exclude swearing or any disturbing scenes. This is what the audience would expect from a fairy tale. The Shrek story begins when a fairy tale book opens. The opening sentence of the story is "Once upon a time". The music is quiet and classical and suits a fairy tale. The book's pages turn until the last page where it closes with "and they lived happily ever after". This is exactly what an audience would expect of a fairytale. While the audience are enjoying this quiet moment, the page is ripped unexpectedly and the toilet is flushed, follow
Princes Fiona called him Shrek's noble steed (when they saved her) meaning his horse which shows that donkey played a major role in the story. The Quest is that Shrek goes on is to save the Princess who is locked in the castle and guarded by a dragon. Next morning Fiona decided to tell Shrek the truth, but she didn't find him and the Sun had risen so she turned back into a beautiful princess. Lord Farquaad instead of having a handsome prince we have a short, weird looking old person dressed like a king. This makes the audience feel as though Shrek and Donkey are good, old friends. It was a quiet Mise en scene and would suitable for a romantic scene, especially that there was a full moon. He left the sunflower in front of the door and left sadly and emotionally hurt. When Donkey complimented the dragon, it admired him and fell in love with him. After she found out about why Shrek came to save her she refused to return with Shrek and wanted Lord Farquaad to come and get her. When the finally escaped the dragon the Princess kept insisting that Shrek would take off his helmet so that she can see his face. Nevertheless Shrek just picked her up and set off to return. This is completely different to what would happen in typical fairytale. This is because of the fast movements and the tense music. This is very strange as a princess is not used to live in any harsh conditions e. Here the camera was zoomed to show the how she twisted her mouth with disappointment.
