Maimonides and Luther are great icons in the history of Judaism and Christianity as by challenging their religious tradition they changed . Although both religions were faced with crisis, Judaism experienced external issues while Christianity was dealing with internal issues. Judaism faced the external issues of Islam dominating the known world and Jews converting to Islam. Luther denounced the indulgence preachers for giving the people a false sense of security, that their place in heaven and souls in purgatory could be saved through the purchase of indulgences. Both Maimonides and Luther introduced new ideas through their written work. He also discussed the true objective of the selling of indulgences. his text The Guide of the Perplexed (Moreh Nevuchim). Martin Luther had also written a text 95 thesis, which challenged the religion and religious authority. Although there are many factors which provoked Luther to protest, such as the sins simony and nepotism and the poor leadership of the Pope (who had spent more time dealing with financial matters than preaching the word of God), it was the selling of indulgences that had ignited the spark for Luther to Protest. And also the issue of Greek philosophy being rediscovered and eliminating the need for religion. Luther, on the other hand responded to the internal issues concerning the corruption of the chruch and the undermining image of Christianity in the eyes of the people. Both individuals had set out with the intent to challenge and rectify their religion but had resulted in greatly different outcomes.
