Independence and decolonization
With World War II out of the way, it brought an uprising in decolonization in many countries. This was a great thing to happen for people in these countries to gain independence from colonies and empires. Decolonization didn't happen over night, it took almost three decades after World War II for some places. With colonial powers weakening, that brought opportunity for independence to Africa and Asia. Not only were Africa and Asia part of this process, British, French, Dutch, Spanish, and Portuguese empires emerged new nations. The cold war and the end of empire came together to make for a new kind of world. The most important thing to happen from World War II was the end of empire. With the cold war going on it made the small nations to have to decide between communism and capitalism. That was hard for these countries because of threat of nuclear terror going around. Algerian and Arab people carried a demonstration, which did not include violence. One hundred French died and eight thousand Algerian and Muslim died. Ghana made a big movement in the ending of British rule and had Kwame Nkrumah as their leader. It brought between half a million and a million to their deaths because of the whole movement of migration. They wanted to gain back their independence. Independence did not come as fast to Africa as other places. Still conflict was going on between India and Pakistan and that brought hardship to bring up these new independent states. French police fired shots and it all broke loss. Africa and Asia pushed through the hard times and stuck through it to become the independent nations they are today. The process of decolonization was a not to peaceful. Pakistan lost the battle of Kashmir and joined alliances with the United States for support. To get their wish they developed groups and demonstrations to get back their rights. Pressure was on these two states from the cold war along with the war over the province of Kashmir. Ghana became independent in 1957, but other places like Southern Rhodesia became independent in 1980. Each of them had there hard times in developing independence.
