Conversation in Hamlet

The characters of Horatio, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern from Shakespeare’s Hamlet are distinctly diverse. These characters are on opposite ends and differ from each other greatly. To understand how they are so different, the reader will have to examine these characters’ relationship with Hamlet, their motives and what supporting characters think of them.

Horatio is Hamlet’s friend and confidant. This is made apparent when Hamlet addresses Horatio by saying, “Sir, my good friend…” (1,2,163-165). An instance where their friendship is made known would be when Hamlet shares with Horatio all of his experiences and misgivings, especially with his deceased father. Hamlet’s lack of concern to revealing his feelings only goes to prove his confidence with Horatio and confirm the fact that the two are close friends.
