The Wizard of Oz
When I think Hero's journey, the first thing that comes to my mind is " The Wizard of Oz." This to me is a hero's journey. Dorothy plays a hero as well as Oz and the Scarecrow, the lion, the tin man and the witch of the east. Dorothy was a hero in many ways. She was the lion's hero along with Oz when he wanted courage and the tin mans hero when he wanted a heart and the scarecrows hero when he wanted a brain. She helped them along the journey realize that they all had what they wanted but had to let it show. Dorothy in a way was Oz's hero; she helped him realize he wasn't as great and Godly as he thought he was. He had gotten himself a very high reputation and couldn't fulfill what his duties were, to grant her wish. The last hero to me in the story was the Great witch of the east. She was Dorothy's real hero. The call in this story was when her dream started. When she was sleeping in her bed in her house and there was a huge storm that blew her house with her and her dog, Toto, away into the land of Oz. The house came crashing to the ground
even though there were happy people with the death of the witch of the west; there were very angry people too. right on top of the wicked witch of the west killing her instantly with her striped stocking legs and red shoes hanging out. She told Dorothy to tap them together with her eyes closed chanting. Then the witch of the East (a very beautiful witch I may add) comes to greet Dorothy and thanks her. Dorothy and Oz both got in and left her new friends after saying good-bye of course. Then her real hero came, the witch of the east again bringing the witch of the west's ruby red shoes. They informed Oz of their Requests and in return got an answer that disappointed them greatly. He told them the truth that he couldn't grant everyone's wish. They finally free Dorothy and are on their way again to see Oz. " Finally Dorothy awoke to her doctor and parents around her bed realizing that it was all a dream and the best one she had ever had. This is where the threshold and the tests and ordeals of the story comes in. Dorothy tells her what happened and how she wanted to go home so the witch told her to follow the yellow brick road to the great Oz. The little people of Oz came out singing and dancing thanking Dorothy looking at her as a hero. Along the way she has 3 different encounters, one with a scarecrow, one with a lion, and one with a tin man. Dorothy realized that she may never get home back to Kansas but the lion the scarecrow and the tin man discovered what they wanted they had the whole time.
