Marijuana
The argument of legalizing marijuana is akin to the age-old battle of Creationism vs. Evolution, because everyone has his or her own opinion. In my opinion, marijuana should be legalized. "I didn't inhale," was President Bill Clinton's reply when the news asked about his experimentation with marijuana. Over seventy million Americans, including President Clinton, admit to smoking marijuana. I think that legalizing the use of marijuana would have medical benefits, economical benefits, and crime benefits. Those in favor of marijuana legalization are groups such as Physicians Association for AIDS Care and National Lymphoma Foundation. They argue that marijuana should be legalized in order to treat terminally ill patients. Glaucoma sufferers who have used marijuana said it has prevented them from going blind. Cancer patients use marijuana to alleviate the severe nausea that often accompanies chemotherapy. "Marijuana is the herbal preparation of cannabis sativa that has many vocal proponents who support its medical use for refractory neurological symptoms, pain, tremors and sleep disorders (Wingerchuck)." As opposed to other pain medications, most people who smoke marijuana never become dependent. No one has ever died from a marijuan

We must help out law enforcement focus on real issues concerning society and aid in the efficiency of taking down hard criminals in an effort to reduce prisons' overcrowding problems. Tobacco is legal and at 430,700 deaths per year it is the leading cause of substance-abuse deaths. " The impact marijuana legalization would have on tax revenues would be dealt with in two ways. The funds would need to go to enforcement of other drug laws such as cocaine, heroin, PCP, and other hard drugs. How this funding redirection would affect overall anti-drug spending is difficult to gauge. As such, proceeds from marijuana sales are kept in the underground economy. First, the tax money currently funding efforts of marijuana control and eradication would be redirected. First, which are the actual drug offenses such as, possession, cultivation/ production, and sale. Take these statistics in to consideration. Studies have shown that 4marijuana does not have the damaging effects of alcohol, pharmaceuticals, or other hard drugs. It would better our society to spend the billions of dollars focused on marijuana justice, to better our schools or improve healthcare. The evidence I have presented overwhelms my decision on why marijuana should be legalized.
