War on Drugs

Hugh Downs, Co-host ABC-TV's 20/20 said on March 31, 1997"This country is a one party country. Half of it is called Republican andhalf is called Democrat. It doesn't make any difference. All the good ideas The Libertarian Party is the organization that respects you as aunique and competent individual. Libertarians believe in America's heritageof liberty, enterprise, and personal responsibility. Libertarians believebeing free and independent is the only way to live. In a system, which wouldencourage all people to choose the path they want from life. The Libertarianway is one of caring, people-centered approach to politics. In a systemwhich would respect the individual and would encourage us all to discoverthe very best from within ourselves and develop to our fullest potential. The Libertarian way is a logically consistent approach to politics, based onthe moral principle of self-ownership. Each individual has the right tocontrol his or her own body, action, speech, and property. The government'sonly role is one of helping individuals to defend themselves from force andfraud. The Libertarian Party is for all who don't want to push others

Our streets became their battleground; tainted alcohol blinded andkilled people. Protect ourrights, and us and give us the respect we deserve. Most Americans, after some thought, would prefer the Libertarian optionto politics. Government did notplay policeman to the world or "keeper" to everyone from conception toextinction. You don'tthreaten you neighbors with fines or jail time just because they support adifferent sports organization. The support for the older parties is a mile wide, but only an inch deep. Americans deserve a political system which respects them as uniqueindividuals, as people who can make their own decision, who can takeresponsibility for themselves, who are compassionate, and who can and willsolve their own problems if allowed to do so. Approximately 40 million Americans are occasional, peaceful users ofsome illegal drug, and are no threat to anyone. It and its candidates such as HarryBrowne the Libertarian candidate for President are in a position to commandmore media attention than ever before. Libertarians would like it if all Americans were healthy and freeof drug dependence. The excess taxes and tariffs that are being collected are morethan sufficient to cover these costs. If we were to eliminate all the current powers and programs of the federalgovernment that aren't "delegated to the United States by the Constitution,"then the remaining constitutional function, such as the national defense andthe federal courts, can be performed for about $100 billion a year.
