Us Policy Towards Asia
In this new century the United States has placed a new emphasis on Forign Relations with Asia. Foreign Since 1945 the United States has had a special relationship with Japan. The United States has had a very detailed history in helping to create the Japan that we see today and therefore is a close ally of this country. The most influential period of Japanese modern politics would be the occupation by the United States after WWII. Due to the surrender of the Japnese government the United States was able to rearrange and shape the politics of Japan as they saw fit. Also unlike the situation in Germany the United States was the only country that really fought the war in the Pacific they alone occupied the island of Japan. General McCarthy was the leader of the occupation by the United States and had two main goal which were to Democritze and Demiliterize the Japanese Government. McCharthy sought to Democritize the Japanese Governement by first creating a Constiution for the Japanese. This Constitiution created a parlimentary system that was elected by the people called the Diet. Realizing that Japan was a culture that held on to its traditions the US did not require that Japan dismiss the id
This gives Japan a special place in Asia as well as the World beacuese they don't have to worry about building a military and can rely on United States protection The United States grants protection to Japan for many reasons. Isreal also has military weapons, plans, boats and technology that no one else has for the pourposes of protection from surronding enemies that are not democracies. Along with Japan being the only democracy in Asia the United States used Japan as a kind of buffer zone between America and Russia during the Cold War. Due to the special relationship that the United States has with Japan America would like to dock thier military ships for refulling and leave. He required that a curriculum that promoted ideas of the West. Soon after WWII the restirictions placed upon Japan were dropped beacuse of the growing threat seen in Russia. He did this by changin g the style of education that was offered in Japan. The US already had NATO in the West to combat the Iron Curtian and used Russia and later S. In this same way Japan is the sole democracy in Asia and as such is given certian incentives to stay as such. The future for Japans role in American Forign relations. There have been some problems with the United States not being allowed to portray her power as she might want to due to the extreme amount of pacifism found in Japan. McCarther ordered the destruction of the Japanese military and made a provision in the constitution that would not allow the Japanese government to place a significant amount of thier economy into the advance of thier military prowess. Also the United States has a very large trade deficit to Japan. The provision as well as the sudden pacifism do to defeat and Japan being the only country to ever have a atomic bomb dropped on them made for a country that had no desire to build up a military.
