Back in the 70's the dominant child-rearing model in America was a nuclear family. In the nuclear family it consist of a husband and wife and their children. The father would go to work and provided the necessities for the family. It was very usually for a mother to be working out of the home back them. It was assume that the mother would stay at home and care for her children until they were in school. Mostly the mother carried out the parenting. The increase of nonmaterial childcare and placing children into out of home care has provided much debate for several decades among theorist regarding the effects of child development. For both the sake of the individual child, and the good of society as a whole, it is essential that the non-parental childcare received by young children be of high quality to promote healthy development, learning and well-being. On the bases of internal actions with a primary care giver (scripts), infants build an internal working model of how to behave toward people and the model is then used to work out what to do each time it enters a new situation.
