Although, some feel that the actions taken by the colonists towards the Native Americans were justified, in reality, there actions were both brutal and hostile, making them guilty of genocide. Their guilt was visible by events such as the landing of the pilgrims and the attack of Fort Mystic.
A person may believe that the English colonists were not guilty of genocide because they did not have straight forward plans to murder every Indian in order to get more land, it just appeared that way. Also, they may think that it wasn’t completely the English’s fault because the Indians would always have to do a retaliation after every attack. These thought are all completely false. The English colonists went into this battle with to intentions of killing every Indian, making it genocide. Also, a retaliation was the only thing the Indians could do to have a chance at staying alive. They did not want to just sit there and let themselves be murdered.

Also, Captain John Mason felt that God himself shared the same genocidal feelings as he did is extremely sick and twisted. However, I don’t know if we can blame all the settlers. The victims were mostly men, however there where several women and children slaughtered. In response, the Pequots killed nine settlers. At dawn on May 26, 1637, Captain Mason sent his troops in on another Pequot village on the Mystic River. That is because in return of those 9 murders, the Pequots got "Six or Seven Hundred" deaths. If the Pequots would not have retaliated, it is a possibility the English would not have answered back in such a harsh fashion. However, they did retaliate because that was human nature to defend themselves and there villages. The attitude and the actions taken by the English were not only destructive, but unnecessary. The reality that they actually went into that village with the intentions to kill innocent people and to burn it down is completely brutal. The majority of those who were struck down were civilians; Old men, women, and children. Then, taking a sword to those who were trying to flee. These people were unprotected because the Pequot soldiers were preparing for a future attack 5 miles away. The Indians never did anything to the settlers to make them act in such an extreme matter here. The actions taken by the Pequots to kill the 9 settlers probably was not the most successful mission.
