Should Governments Use power to Control Overpopulation
Should Governments Use Power to Control Overpopulation?Nowadays, the world's population is about 6 billion and is increasing rapidly. Soon, there will not be enough resources for the residences. As a result, overpopulated countries such as China have implemented some policies against overpopulation. One of the most violent rules is to force people to limit their number of children. In my opinion, using power to limit the number of children a family can have is not a good solution for controlling overpopulation. The first and most important reason is that limiting people to have a specified number of children has many problems. One of the most important problems is female infanticide which is against human rights. In fact, many people prefer male children over females because of cultural traditions which regard males stron
I believe that governments should change people's minds and make them aware of the dangers of overpopulation and teach them the necessary skills for birth control instead of using such antiquated strategies which violate human rights. As a result, this policy drives many families to kill or abandon their baby girls. Research shows that rural families, which have a lower level of education, are more populated than families in big cities. Another important problem with this policy is that boys will outnumber girls very soon. In fact, advertising has a great and fast impact on people. Recently, modern technology, such as ultra-sound, helps people to know the sex of the baby before birth and abortion may occur if it is a girl. It also shows that parents with a low standard of education do not know about the methods of birth control. It is clear that this huge number of unwanted pregnancies is because of low education. com/prolife_indonesia/numberofabortions. htmMiddle East Directory, (2001), Iran, Retrieved on October 7/2002 fromhttp://www. org/facts_and_figures/unwanted_pregnancy. 7% in ten years (Middle East Directory, 2001).
