Drinking Age
The current drinking age in Colorado is twenty-one, but at one time it used to be eighteen. Anyone who is eighteen, these days has some way of getting alcohol if they want it anyway. So in my opinion they should drop the drinking age. Dropping the drinking age has pros and cons. If they were to drop the drinking age there would be less minor offenses for the police to worry about, so they could focus on the larger crimes. The kids would be a lot more responsible, because they are given more responsibilities. On the other hand some of the kids would be taking advantage of the situation, and would be irresponsible. If Colorado were to drop the drinking age then the police departments around the state could focus more on the larger crimes. This would help to drop the crime rate in Colorado dramatically. Everyone would realize that the cops are starting to enforce the laws a lot more. People would be very cautious when they are breaking the laws. Less people would be breaking laws, because they would know that the cops are watching them a lot more. With the police depa
After all most of the eighteen year olds around are able to get alcohol if they really want it. rtments having much more free time on their hands the citizens in all of the communities would feel safer. Some of the melees, such as those within the past two years at Ohio University, the University of Colorado, and Pennsylvania State University, have involved significant injuries and many arrest (smith, b8). With this new law the kids would have more responsibilities on their hands. In my opinion this huge jump in ages causes the kids to get to anxious to finally be able to drink; and it causes them to become alcoholics. This can even effect people over twenty-one, some of their friends they party with could be underage and giving them alcohol is illegal, this also stays on their record. With more responsibilities the kids would learn to step up and act their age. This has the potential to create in students a life-long animosity toward police in general and this is not a healthy attitude in a democracy. This as the potential to cause heavy drinking, brawling, and sexual misconduct. Setting the drinking age at twenty-one has forced underage drinkers to party and hangout in less public, more dangerous places to avoid getting stopped by police for drinking illegally. The drinking age law has harmful effects on campus life as well. This could decided a persons future, getting a job and attend a college of choice. Where on the other hand from age sixteen to the age of twenty-one, it is a huge jump and a lot of responsibility at one time. The ones against it would be the adults, but they have to realize that when they were our age the drinking age was eighteen and it didn't cause that many problems then; so why would it now? . It would keep kids off of the streets and in there own homes.
