             Nearly every part of the plant Cannabis sativa aka marijuana is used in different forms. This plant grows quickly up to about twenty feet and in many different environments. Its leaves consists of about five jagged edged leaflets, each attached from a slender stem to a thick, hallow stalk. The plant species consists of both male and female varieties. The stalks produce fiber, seeds provide food and oil, and the flowers, leaves, and resin appear in medical and intoxicating preparations. Everyday, teenagers buy cool hemp shirts, people buy body lotions and oils in hope it will provide smooth radiating skin. Glaucoma patients inhale cannabis cigarettes in hope of retaining their sight, and thousands of people nationwide puff marijuana in anticipation of altering consciousness or simply just to relax after a long stressful day. Lots of money and time will have to be consumed to further educate ourselves about the biology of Cannabis sativa. These industrial, medical and recreational uses for Cannabis sativa go back thousands of years and yet until this day Americans still have many questions and issues concerning marijuana.
             The most heated debates about marijuana prohibition often concern the drug's role in social problems. The people against legalizing marijuana have the idea that the legal drugs currently available provide appropriate relief form relevant symptoms. They also say that the drug diminishes motivation and people say that marijuana is a gateway drug that can lead to other more powerful and addicting substances. It is obvious that people who are intoxicated with cannabis think differently, but what causes this altering of cognition? Studies show how chronic exposure to cannabis can alter some aspects of thought and memory.
