her reign, and the story of her and King Solomon.
Through my research I learned that the Queen of Sheba could have reigned anytime from
950- 970 b.c. She is believed to have reigned over Sheba, Saba in Southwest Arabia, and
Ethiopia. As you may know the Queen of Sheba is known under more than one name. She is
known as the Queen of the South, to the Moslems. to Solomon- she was the Queen of Sheba or
Saba. To the ancient Greeks- the Black Minerva and the Ethiopian Diana. Other names Nikhaule
Now the story of her and King Solomon varies. One story, (an unknown source) says in
. . .
Menelik got old enough, Makeda to his father‘s kingdom, to be educated under his request. She may have traveled
by land up the eastern coast of the Red Sea or crossed the sea and through Ethiopia and Egypt. Solomon agreed but when his son left with his many
servants and assistants, the company stole the holy Ark of the Covenant from the Temple in
Jerusalem and brought it to a temple in the city of Aksum. Before he won Makeda over, it‘s said that he slept with her slave.
Another story, in which the source was given: Kebra Nagast (Book of the Glory of
Kings).
Makeda‘s stories aren‘t always so simple. There is a slight chance that Sheba, letting her curiosity in Solomon
form a bond of friendship between the two kingdoms, in order to protect her country from
attack. Relatives of the slave‘s son eventually became emperors of the Zagwe‘ dynasty from
the 11th to 13th centuries.
Menelik wished to go back to his mother. On her way home, she delivered Solomon‘s son who she named Menelik. She traveled with a large caravan, she
brought a fortune in gifts for Solomon- 120 talents of gold (4,000,000,00), precious gems and
many exotic and rare spices. Approximate her departure, Solomon gave her some of his
finances.
