and some heroes maybe actual true to life heroes who have been a hero to their people or
a hero to their country. In the Anglo-Saxon period, which took place about 600 B.C. and
spanned over six centuries, there was the hero Beowulf who saved his group of people
from a horrific monster named Grendel. In the Medieval Period Robin hood and King
Arthur were portrayed as the heroic individuals. Even though living in the same time
period Robin Hood and King Arthur had many attributes that were not alike and they also
had a variety of attributes that were similar.
The Robin Hood Ballads are the type ballad that epitomizes the exemplary English yeoman. Robin Hood is well mannered, Self-respecting, chivalrous, devout, and carefree hero. As a defender of the weak and an enemy of the oppressor, Robin Hood “stole from the rich and gave to the poor”. An example of this can be seen when Robin approaches a young man and ask him if he had any money, the young man replied “I have no money, but five shillings and a ring that I have kept seven long years to have it at my wedding.” The young man was supposed to marry a young maid the day before, however;

The death of Authur is unknown, however; Authur was betrayed by his nephew. Although Authur did not die from the betrayal of his Nephew he was hurt. “The Archbishop of Canterbury, by Merlin’s advice gathered those knights whom Pendragson had loved and trusted most…all these and many more stayed near to Authur day and night to protect him”. This shows that Authur was a kind man who wanted the best for all of his fellow citizens. Pulling the sword out of the marble stone and anvil, which made him king, is the most famous event that happened to Authur. After receiving the baby Merlin then bestowed the child to Sir Ector, and his wife who nursed the babe at her own breast. Remembering there was a sword in a marble stone at the church courtyard Authur turned to his horse and galloped to the courtyard. Igraine conceived a boy, upon having the baby; it was then delivered to Merlin. This quote also proves how the Knights of the Round Table protected King Authur.
King Authur’s heroism was also shown through his supporters, his actions, and his men. “Then Arthur swore on oath to all the lords and commons that he would be a just and true king to them all the days of his life”. the maid was taken to be a knights delight.
