Home Turf: the war was fought on American soil. a. the American troops had all of their supplies ready for use, while the British had to send and wait for their supplies to arrive from Europe. a. they fought as individuals, firing from behind cover rather than in ranks like the British. (Some expert riflemen used the Pennsylvania rifle which was more accurate than the usual pistol at longer distances.) b. the British thought these tactics were unprofessional and cowardly.*this strategy of fighting became the standards of warfare as weaponry and warfare became more sophisticated. 3. They were fighting for a cause: a. Continental Army: led by George Washington of Virginia induced 10,000 militiamen to join. (Mostly farmers, merchants, etc.)
they wanted freedom from taxes, trade, monopolies, and unfair representation. enlistment was way to avoid prison for some. In America, they didn't have enough hard coin, (which was considered the only reliable money) to pay off debts. Washington appointed Baron Von Steuben in 1778.
