A Seperate Peace

             "Why was it Necessary For Phineas To Die?"
             In A Separate Peace, there were two main characters: Gene and Phineas. Phineas was a fun loving soul, who didn't like to follow the rules. While Gene was a hard working, good student, who did almost everything Phineas said to. Gene began to have thoughts that Phineas was out to get him, to sabotage his grades. Phineas was not good in school at all, so Gene thought Phineas was trying to "take Gene down with him".
             In the beginning Phineas and Gene jumped out of this tree into the river. But before they jumped Gene almost fell, until Phineas reached out and caught him. They were the youngest boys ever to attempt this. Gene and Phineas were at the age of 16. People called the tree jump a test to enlist into the army. After this jump Phineas decided to form "The Suicide Society of the Summer Session". To get into this club, you would have to jump out of the tree; it was a club for living on the edge. Gene analyzes everything that Phineas says to him, and takes everything as Phineas is "out to get him".
             One day Phineas decides to take Gene, on bikes, to the beach. They go to the beach and sleep on the sand. The next morning, Gene has a test, but Phineas wants to go for a quick swim. Gene is angered because he feels Phineas is trying to make him miss his test. Gene ends up failing the test, even though he gets back in time to take it. Then late that night, Gene does a lot of analyzing of Phineas' character. Then Phineas invites Gene to the tree, because Leper says that he is going to jump. Leper is the roommate from across the hall. Gene is outraged and confronts Phineas about trying to purposely bring down his grades, and Phineas tells Gene that he thought, "it came natural" to Gene. Gene apologizes for thinking this way, and then goes to the Tree. While at the tree, Phineas decided to do a double jump with Gene...
