Education/Elem vs. sec.
(The difference between Elementary and Secondary) Deciphering where the responsibility lies-when it comes to education-will not be the same for every person, school, or grade-level (age). As children progress through their schooling-towards secondary education-they certainly acquire a new taste of responsibility. Gradually students will have to begin taking accountability for their actions: whether it be completing homework or getting to class on time despite a trip to their locker. Most importantly the students will no longer have the convenience and comfort of being in one classroom and having only one teacher per day for an entire year. The purpose of this assignment was to determine if a parent or a teacher is more responsible for student learning. From own my thought, and also through questioning Tim Storch, the teach
Another important issue is a parent building a healthy relationship with the student's teacher. Homework leaves the student with options; he can do the work or not do it! The teacher does not decide. There is much more homework assessed in secondary education because of the lack of time that a fifty-minute class provides. Since a secondary teacher will deal with hundreds of students a year, as opposed to an elementary teacher having about thirty a year, it is much more difficult to keep an eye on every students record. They can pick elective classes, they have their own lockers, and most importantly they have learned that it is they who will decide their performance. Unfortunately secondary students are much more likely to slip between the cracks. Both-together-are vital in a chain of progress, which prepares a student for life as an adult. This paper never made any mention of parents to this point. However, the fact is that the parents may be the most important part of education. . We have looked at how the setting changes as the student progresses in school, and in particular the differences between elementary and secondary education. er I was paired up with for observation, I have determined that responsibility is a process; When a child begins in elementary school the teacher will be with the child for about 7 hours (starting 1st grade, of course). The combination of the amount of time they spend together balanced with the fact that the kids are just beginning to understand what school really is, contribute to making an elementary teacher more responsible for their young students development than a high school teacher would be for his teen-age students who have been through enough school to know what needs to be accomplished. Tim Storch, the teacher I observed this semester, asks a simple question, "How many hours of the day are the kids at home: compared to the amount of time they spend in my class room?" This question shows how important parent involvement actually is. That is certainly not an excuse for a student not getting the education that he deserves, but it is a reality that is common.
