Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were two notorious robbers during the late 1800's and early 1900's. They have been rumored to be the most famous and successful bank robbers in history because of their long run with "The Wild Bunch" in the 1880's and 1890's. It has been rumored that they were killed in Bolivia in 1909. Butch Cassidy was born as Robert Leroy Parker in 1866. His parents had decided that they would settle in Mormon country in Utah. He was described as very restless and had a very acquisitive nature to himself while he was growing up. Once he was a teenager, he met a cowboy rustler name Mike Cassidy. Cassidy, who later was the inspiration for his name, had taught him how to shoot, ride, and rope over the course of a few years to prepare him for his future. He liked the way the alias "Butch Cassidy" sounded so he replaced 'George' with it. legend has it that they were killed by Bolvian soldiers in either 1909 or 1911 after the robbery had taken place. While there they had their picture taken as a group with the money, and then sent to the Winnemnucca bank, thanking them for the money. This new name then stayed with him for the rest of his life. Just like other western films like it, it glorifies that these were nice guys committing these crimes, and not necessarily criminals. In September 1901, Butch and two others from his group had robbed the First National Bank in Winnecucca, Nevada and made $32,000. After his term was up, Butch went back to Brown's Hole and collected some men together. The film staring Robert Redford and Paul Newman show the men bravely charging out at the Bolivian Police and getting shot at with a very heroic look to the ending. , the two of them will always be known as two of the most notorious bank robbers to ever have lived.
