             Is Americas Pastime on Dope?
             Are steroids a problem in Major League Baseball? Since the early 1980's MLB has wanted to test players for steroids. MLB and the players have not reached an agreement in the player's contract for MLB to have the right to test for steroids, and the players will go on strike if test were administered. The commissioner is faced with the problem of how to convince the athletes to agree to a new contract that allows testing for steroids. With new drugs and detox products coming on the market every day, there are no tests that can effectively detect every illegal substance. Players openly talk about using steroids, coaches know about steroids, and the MLB has provided voluntary failed tests to prove that the drugs are prevalent in the MLB. Yet nothing has been done to stop players in the MLB from taking steroids. The athletes involved believe that steroids will help produce more homeruns and better statistics which equals more money. The fans that agree with doping only want to see the homeruns and big numbers. The players use juice to hit the homeruns that fans pay to see, which pays the owners and managers who could help the problem out the most, but look the other way because it is also helping there paychecks. Doping up to become a better athlete is cheating the players who are true to America's pastime by not cheating. It is cheating the fans, and threatening to erase the records from the past put up by pure talent.
             Steroids have previously been looked at by the baseball community as scares, and secretly taken by only a few big hitters in the 80's and early 90's. Steroids today in baseball are a part of our era when considering the substantial evidence that suggests the number of players that now take performance enhancing drugs.
