Napoleon was now the one who took Jones’ place. He was the leader of the farm. He had many rights that no other animal on the farm had. The animals trust Napoleon, as if he was one of them, not the one to whom they were slaves.
One day, while the animals were still working for the windmill, Napoleon was in the house, “working”. He had new ideas about how the farm can work.
“What if “we” get back in touch with “the world” – which means more freedom, more supplies, more animals on my farm … in little words, more for nothing?” Napoleon was talking to himself, but Squealer who came into the room destructed him, as if he , the intruder, dared to enter in the thickness and darkness of his profound thoughts. He was having news. Boxer was dying, and the animals were all very scared.
. . .
Squealer was confused. “Maybe I’m too smart for this place, but if I leave the farm now, they are all going to die, or maybe Snowball will take control over the farm again … Maybe, maybe. Call the knacker, and in less than three hours, this problem will be forget. “Do you want me to take care of him here?”
A hideous laugh destroyed the plainness, the stillness of Napoleon’s emotionless face. “You stupid creatures … Do I have to tell you everything? No, we are not going to take care of him, not here, and not in a hospital. The power to know how to command… and there is the “power” to be superficial enough as to be able to be commanded. what do you expect me to do … to go and carry him through hospitals and waste my money? Why can you animals think for yourself? I thought you’re more different from the other, and I can trust you. The other animals on this farm never lived better, and they are not going to live better without me.
“How could you drink all the alcohol? Why are you so selfish … why can’t you be like me … kind with everybody, loved by everybody? Have you ever seen me being ungenerous with the creatures around me? I treat you like you are my son, and I try to teach you how to live in this world. Ha, ha, ha… Losers!! Here I come!”
. Now all my thoughts flew away … I can’t believe this! Squealer?? Squealer??” Napoleon cried as something dreadful happened, but nobody came. No!! I can’t leave, even if I truly want to go away. He tried again to call Squealer, but he noticed he was in front of the door and he came in.
