College Students that Work are Less likely to Succeed

             Nowadays, teenagers are trying to find a job while they are in school. More than five million teenagers work, and many of them are experiencing difficulties in school as a result. The National Research Council and the Institute of Medicine have conducted studies which show that teenagers who work long hours over 20 hours a week often have lower grades and higher alcohol consumption, and they spend too little time with their families. These findings are reinforced by studies done at Stanford University, Temple University and the University of Minnesota, all of which recommend a limit of 20 hours a week. Teenagers must focus on their studies rather than their job. Working while at school causes students to get lower grades, drop out of school, and concentrate less.
             Studies show that working while at school causes students to have lower grades. In fact, that can result in students doing less homework at school. In a personal example, a couple friends of mine were A students before they got jobs. One of them found out after he had started working while he was in school had negative effect against him. For instance, his grades were lowered from A to B and even C sometimes. On the other hand, another friend was a very good student until she started working. Since then she started coming from work very exhausted and she did not do homework that she was supposed to do. After that she end up getting lower grades in school and that caused her to fail in one of her courses, that was one of the worst experiences of her life.
             Working while at school also causes students to drop out of school, because of difficulties in balancing school and work. Some research found out that students who work fewer hours experience fewer negative consequences.
