Narrative essay

             September 26, 1999, I took my son in for his two-month check up. When I got there, the receptionist said, "Dr. Welsh is gone for the day, but Dr. Spangler would be happy to see him." Little did I know that this slight change in plans would change my life forever.
             When I went to the hospital to be induced for labor, I was extremely excited. I knew when we walked out there would be three people instead of two. I was induced around 2:00 A.M. Finally, after an hour and a half of labor, Jaden LeRoy Olson was born. His umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck twice, and he was not breathing. The doctors took him right away. Within a few minutes he was crying, and so was I. When the nurse handed him to me she said, "He's just fine, you have a healthy eight and a half pound baby boy!"
             The next day when they brought Jaden back to me after his bath, I was being nosey and looked at his medical chart. In the complications area there was a comment, it said that he had a heart murmur. My heart dropped, I looked at Jaden and started bawling. Adam, Jaden's dad, asked me what was wrong. I showed him the clipboard, and he reassured me that he was fine. If there was something really wrong they would tell me, right?
             When our doctor came to check us out of the hospital the next day, I asked him about the murmur. He listened to Jaden and said, "His heart sounds just fine. Sometimes when babies are born they have a murmur. They go away within twenty-four hours." He told us to call to make an appointment for a two-week check up; then, as soon as the proper paper work was completed, we could go home! After the piles of paper work was done, we went home to start our new little family.
             For the next two weeks, something inside of me was telling me there was something wrong. So naturally when we took him in for his two-week check up I thought I would ask the doctor again about his heart, just to be...
