Compare and Contrast:Interest Parties

             Today interest groups are omnipresent in the American political system. They have become important mechanisms through which citizens in the United States make their ideas, needs, and views known to elected officials. Citizens can usually find an interest group that focuses on their concerns, no matter how specialized they may be. In this report I will be able to compare and contrast the two major interest groups the American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organization (AFL-CIO) and the Common Cause.
             I will first compare the American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organization with the Common Cause interest parties. Both the AFL-CIO and the Common Cause push for civil rights and civil liberties for all. They have achieved this goal by lobbying, or communicating with a governmental decisionmaker with the hopes of influencing his or her decisionmaking process. Therefore, they are able to presuade a legislator on their views. They both have tried to ensure diversity in every aspect of the government. This has made an effort for citizens to gain economic and social injustice in our society. The AFL-CIO and the Common Cause interest groups, also have tried to prevent people from discrimination and enduring struggle for dignity and respect.
             The AFL-CIO and the Common Cause both try to increase participation in the political process by empowering our members, supporters and the general public to take action on critical policy issues. Each promote democracy and fairness in government. Both have fought to remove barriers to voting and to ensure that our voting systems are accurate and accessible. The American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organization and the Common Cause have fought for reforms in our governmental process.
