Why Americans are getting fat?

According to Kelly Brownell, one of the nation’s leading obesity experts, one out of two adults and one out of four children are overweight. It’s almost abnormal to be normal weight in this society. A survey in 1999 and 2000 shows that more than 30 percent of people in the United States are overweight according to the study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. That is an 8 percent increase over data collected from 1988 through 1994. Although these data really appear dramatic, obesity will increase rapidly if American people just keep up with the way they are now. Why has it become so hard for us to stay at normal weight? And why now is this trend of obesity so rapidly increasing? Many people have asked those questions for years, and the answer is that what we eat and our life style has lead more and more of us to fat. One of the reasons that lead us to obesity is that we are living in a society with a lot cultural changes which made us eat more food that make us easily to get fat. Another reason is that are consuming a lot more calories before. Plus we are less active than we were before.

The first cause of obesity is that American people are we are living in a societ

. . .
Therefore they don’t hesitate to pay billions of dollars for advertising on the television and radio each year.

This new way of eating due to changes in our society is the reason that leads us to eat more calories. Some of us don’t exercise because walking or running outside is too dangerous, or not have money to join health clubs. A study shows that in the year 2000, women on the average ate 335 more calories everyday than what they ate in 197, which is equal to a large chocolate chip cookie. They not only encourage us through advertisement but also by giving us extra things when we buy their food. And because these advertisements anywhere Americans go Americans think of such food all the time and want to eat it. For example, an average soft drink increased from 13 ounces and 144 calories to nearly 20 fluid ounces and 193 calories, while the average cheeseburger grew from 5. 6 ounces and calories from 132 to 225 (Food portion increase along with obesity).

The fat trend would not increase rapidly like it has been if each of us spends a little bit of time on exercising. Now, just sitting at the desk, turning on the computer, we can chat with our friends and do our shopping online. The factory are actually using these tricks to encourage us to eat more and more of their foods but most of Americans fell for that. We live in an environment which food is always ready to eat. Americans are consuming more and more calories and they have no idea about that.
