Plot of Blood Wedding
The bridegroom is preparing to go off and work in the vineyards, planning to eat some grapes instead of his mother's cooking. He asks her for a knife to cut the vines with, which causes his mother to ramble about her dead husband and son, and the anger she feels for the ones that killed them, and her concern for the bridegroom's safety. The bridegroom distracts her attention by talking about the girl he is going to marry. The mother does not know the girl, but agrees to go with her son to meet the girl. The bridegroom leaves after promising his mother happiness with grandchildren. A neighbour then comes to visit the mother, and she questions the neighbour about her son's bride-to-be. The neighbour reveals that the bride's mother did not love her husband, and also that the bride used to be the girlfriend of Leonardo Felix, a member of the family which killed the mother's husband and son. The neighbour leaves, and the mother tries to put her fears to the back of her mind. Takes place in the house of Leonardo. His wife is knitting, and her mother is holding the baby, whilst they both try to get the child asleep with a lullaby. Once the lullaby is over, Leonardo enters, having returned from ha
Scene ThreeAct One Situated deep in a forest at night, whilst two violins are heard, three woodcutters appear. Leonardo denies such things, but is challenged by his mother-in-law who says that the horse is looking half-dead now. The Mother treats her cruelly, and sends her over to the door if she is to weep with them. The Mother's fears return when she sees Leonardo. The Mother and Father get back from the church, only to find out from the Servant that Leonardo and his wife have already arrived. They sing a song announcing that nobody has returned from the wedding, and that Leonardo and the Bridegroom are both dead. On one side being guilt and shame, and on the other being their uncontrollable love for one another. The Bride becomes more agitated when the Servant begins to sing a traditional wedding song. The bridegroom and mother leave, and the Bride is left alone with the servant. The dead bodies are brought home, and the neighbours are left kneeling and weeping as the curtain falls. She is scared when the Bridegroom comes up behind her to hug her, and then claims she has a headache and goes to lie down, not allowing the Bridegroom to go with her. Their journey has been long and tiring. The entire group set off for the church. The mother-in-law and wife are left singing the child back to sleep. ving his horse's shoes replaced at the blacksmiths.
