Computer Programming

My report is on computer programming. I would like to know how computers work, my explanation on Windows, and why fast modems don’t work on slow computers. I chose to right my report on this topic because of the fact that I have decided to major my studies in computer science.

Computers are devices that process information with accuracy and astonishing speed (World Book, 908). The most powerful computer can perform tens of billions of calculations per second, computers are made up of many computer components, such as: Microprocessors, memory chips, input devices, storage devices, and output devices. Microprocessors Control computer systems and processes information (pcguide). The information is encoded as units of electric charge tat represents numbers. The Microprocessor consists of thousands or even millions of switches called transistors other electronic devices, and wires. These parts are arranged in circuits and built into a chip usually made of silicon that is no larger than a fingernail.

Modems are devices that enable Computers to communicate with one another over an Internet telephone line. The Computer runs on memory chips and micropro

. . .

When I say “the memory chip is full”, I mean that it has filled itself with so much information that it cannot receive the information and store it in on one of it’s storage chips but it is working very hard in compacting the information it already has so it could have more room for new information. Some input devices are hand operated, but others work automatically when turned on (World Book, 912). To fix this problem more megahertz must be added so that the computer can work properly and you can enter more megahertz by entering a silicon chip to the other hardware so that it can have more room for new information and transfer old information so it could fit comfortably and then the computer will automatically correct the errors and will let the modem function properly.

The mechanics of Computers is very complicated for the novice students in the computer science education, but for a Intermediate student like myself, I understand a lot more about computers than when I was a beginner. A kilobyte is equal to 1,024 bytes; a megabyte, 1,048,576 bytes and a gigabyte is equal to 1,073,741,824 bytes. The screen displays the cursor pointer that is used by the mouse, the screen also displays the task bar at the bottom of the screen that displays the programs that start up with your computer and programs that are used usually by the user of the computer. A monitor is a screen which displays the information that you would like to put inside the computer or information you would like to take out of your computer. 1 which is one of the first versions of windows ever made, the newest version is Windows Millennium Edition and Windows 2000, these editions are similar but with a couple of different components, for example : Windows 2000 is virtually most likely to never ever freeze and Windows Millennium Edition is more like Window 98(the previous version) and they have made several modifications so that Windows ME(Millennium Edition) can be more efficient than Windows 98. The Mouse is a palm-size device that the computer operator moves about on flat surface such as a table, chair, mouse pad, etc. The Microsoft windows has many different versions of itself, beginning with Window 3. I have also learned a lot about the functions of the input and output devices, I have also learned a lot about computers software such as windows and also Macintosh Apple computer software.

The Output device such as Monitors, Printers, and Speakers. This software is made by Microsoft which was started by Bill Gates which is now considered the richest man alive. Computer information is measured by multiples of bytes.
