While reading Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer I learned of a group of mountain climbers called Sherpas. As I learned in the true story the Sherpas go up and down the mountains quite often with tourist and serious climbers alike but do these heroes or the train really know what they are doing as well as Krakauer thinks? Do they ever have troubles when in a group of just themselves? Do they ever die on the slopes without an inexperienced climber contributing to the accident?
In an effort to find information about Sherpas I went to dogplie.com that gave me many more links than I ever thought possible. From my simple search I decided to only look at sights I considered reliable so I first looked at a PBS sight; if PBS is untrustworthy the world is in really bad sh
. . .
I got s much information off of this one sight I didn’t really have to look on another but to appease my curiosity to I decided it was best to get more than one source of information to make sure of its accuracy so I returned to my grand dogpile. Some scientists think they have evolved differently from an average human because they can go up and down mountains without supplemental oxygen. This is something we all should attempt to do. Some of the masters Sherpas do die on the mountains. Others think anyone can train their body to do this. It is a library of many different reliable sources of information and has my recommendation to any student or even teacher looking for anything. They crossed the Nangpa La pass at 19,100 ft. There are about 35,000 Sherpas in Nepal that is more than most people think there are. From the PBS link I stumbled on to a NOVA online report about Sherpas on Everest. Everest faster than anyone had ever thought imaginable lost his footing and fell to his death, landing in a crevasse. The Sherpas get a large portion of their money from guiding hikers up a mountain in the Himalayas.
On these two sights I found a large array of information about Sherpas. My new source held much of the same type of information as the NOVA sight. Once again I was blessed with a great sight.
