The tunnel leads to a round Romanesque chapel-like room containing an elevator. The floors, light grey slabs of marble. The room is surrounded by beautiful windows with leaded panes overlooking the Alps. The magnificent elevator that takes you to the top of the mountain is unlike any other. Lined by thick, highly polished brass, the doors are like golden mirrors.
The main room of the Eagle’s Nest is pentagon shaped. Solid brass walls and mirrors make it look less confining. The elevator, which is just visible behind the open door, is two stories high. As one walks out onto the huge terrace, one is amazed by the dramatic views of the mountains and scenery.
. It covers 130 meters very quickly and the doors open onto a large dynamic hall within the Eagle's Nest. An enormous fire place, framed by a marble mantle given to Hitler by Mussolini, stands opposite a spectacular view.
The most impressive feature of the Eagle’s Nest are the breathtaking views of the Austrian and South German Alps. The tunnel has a cold damp feel to it, the shine of the bricks adds to the feeling of mystery.
