Chicago

             To know Chicago is an experience in first principles: despair and a great hope. A despair, not so much because Chicago is cruel and crude as because "culture" has been struck upon its surface as a businessman's expedient or thoughtlessly bought by the rich as a luxury. Bought in blissful ignorance of the more vital, less fashionable contribution Chicago has to make for life. Chicago has always been seen as a city that was built on making money. It was the Industrial Revolution that brought about this massive influx of people, workers and bankers and mother and fathers. It was everyone, they were, and still very much are, still drawn to this city.
             It's a place that towers high into the sky in the daytime, casting an endless shadow over the city, and a sparkling gem, illuminated by the city lights in the nighttime. It houses the rich, the poor, the starving women and children, the prostitutes, the mayor, the criminals, the college students, and the hopefuls, who want to make something of their life. Despite the vast difference from one group to another, it is blatantly clear that people haven't forgotten where they came from, it's the diversity that makes the city pulsate, they are like the blood that keeps the city moving, keeping it alive.
             The people today, and the people in the stories came to the city like flowers ready to bloom. This was a city that was made from money, and made for money, and it seemed as if everyone wanted to get their hands on it, so they came and bloomed and a city grew.
             History says it best in the quote "People are attracted to more people". Perhaps that's why the people are still drawn to cities, or is it the magnificent buildings, or perhaps it's the feeling that you get when you are in the city, that alive, adrenalin rush of emotions and feelings about what you have presented before you.
