Black Boy

             Richard Wright' story in Black Boy is a journey from innocence to experience in the Jim Crowism that exited in the south. He was a witness to the tragedy from childhood to manhood of prejudice America. It clearly shows how life was for a young black male in Southern America.
             Black Boy is both an accusation of the American racism and a story of the author's development. As a child growing up in the Jim Crow South, Richard faced constant pressure in the authority of the whites. However, even from an early age, Richard had a strong spirit of rebellion. If he had not been a rebellious in issues regarding race and comforting to being just another Negro, Richard would have probably had became an international author.
             On the other hand, Richard did not only face opposition to his dreams from racist whites. In many ways, his own family and the black community opposed his aspirations. His grandmother, a strict, illiterate seventh Day Adventist, considered reading and writing bout anything other than God sinful. Richard's "friends" considered him silly and unrealistic, and maybe dangerous. Throughout his childhood, Richard suffered violence at the hands of his family for saying what was on his mind rather than keeping silent. In Black Boy, he often charges the black community with keeping the whites as racist as they are.
             Throughout his childhood and adulthood, Richard really hated how the blacks would always yield to the white authority. However, his personal experiences clearly affected his relationship with it. Just as he suffered abuse from his own family, he did not receive any comfort from the black community. Wright constantly clashed with what he saw as Black American submission. The black community just believed Richard as a fool. Therefore, was also isolated from the black community. He believed the only way for blacks to become equal would be to rebel as well. A rebellious act of one ...
