Poll Vault

Pole Vaulting is a sport that is not a very well known one in the sports world of today. It is not as publicized as basketball, baseball, football, or even any of the other track and field events. But what people don't know is it has a full and rich history with many exciting events throughout its evolution. Pole Vaulting's history has had several different changes and events that have taken place. The pole vault is a sport that is an extremely technique oriented sport. There are many drills and techniques one must learn to master the sport. It is not just a sport that you can train your body physically and do well in. It is said that the pole vault is an event that is actually more mental preparation than it is physical. The elite vaulters of today have trained for many years to learn these techniques and master this sport. Pole-vaulting has always been a sport where the best vaulters are not young athletes but athletes around the age of 30. This is due to the years of training it takes to become an efficient and outstanding vaulter. There are many vaulters in this day and age that have obtained this knowledge and experience. The pole vault is an event that has been taking place for a long time. There are many theories on how

The earliest competitions started in England and Germany. " These poles allow the vaulter to bend the pole and shoot up in the air to achieve greater heights. The heights have also increased greatly in the pole vault. To become good at this event it takes a tremendous amount of determination for the sport. When leaving the ground one jumps off their left foot and swings their body up towards the top of the pole and over the crossbar. The world record today is 20 feet and ¾ inches. Practice, strength training, and running conditioning are the most important aspects of training for the vault. Roll backs are basically just backwards somersaults where the vaulter tries to make themselves vertical and upside down halfway through the somersault. Drills that can be done can improve many areas of one's vault. After the ash and hickory poles came bamboo poles. "It is thought that the primitive men used the skills of jumping with the poles as wartime exercises. For one's approach one might do "pole runs". The actual event of the pole vault did not begin until about the year 1800. This allows the pole to bend and the vaulter to get the feeling of taking off after the plant and emphasize on proper form to assure a good vault. It involves years of training, practice, and learning about the sport.
