The ancient city of Rome was advanced in many ways. The combination of the intellectually advanced engineers and physically inclined architects were able to build Rome as if it fell from the heavens. The greatness of these architect’s dreams, was equally expressed to all, from the slaves to Caesar. From the races held in the Circus Maximus, to the gladiator tournaments of the Colossuem, and to the beauty that was contained by the city of Pompeii. From the visions of men, visions that seemed to come from Apollo himself, visions that should not be tarnished with such things as words, but only enjoyed in silence, a great city was constructed. For that is where these dreams are born, the city of Rome.
The Colosseum or the “Flavian Amphitheater” is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Rome. It is 600 feet long, 161 feet high and 500 feet wide. It could hold 50,000-80,000 spectators at any given time. The Colosseum had four levels and seventy-six entrances for its spectators. The first level was for the Emperor, the Senators and the Vestals. The second level was for the upper class. On the third level sat the professional and business classes, and on the fourth level sat the common people and woman.

(Bishop, Eggers) The forums eventually became a place for beautiful statues and architecture to be displayed. It was a dome shaped building with the interior being a perfect circle. A forum is an open space or market place. The track was a third of a mile long and 150 yards wide. The ashes mixed with rain and settled around the bodies in molds that remained after the bodies themselves had turned to dust. Though being able to experience any part of Rome would be a treat. it was inaugurated with one hundred days of games and festivals where 9,000 wild animals and 2,000 gladiators were killed. It preserved many of the buildings, temples, theaters, baths and private homes. The event held most often at the Circus Maximus was chariot races sometimes with up to ten horses. The Circus had a four story façade like the Colosseum, but was much busier then the Colosseum. It held 250,000 people, but the remains suggest that there were only 150,000 seats. Being able to discover and uncover life about an ancient civilization would be an awesome experience. More then one-fourth of the city remains to be excavated, and much of this area lies beneath piles of earth heaped up from earlier excavations.
