Malcolm X supported the use of violence as a form of protest and self-defense. Blacks had been experiencing violence for hundreds of years, and had always been taught to be nonviolent. Malcolm X was the one who told blacks to use violence of violence is upon them. He hated the fact that blacks were supposed to be the ones who were nonviolent, while white supremacist groups such as the KKK go around lynching and killing blacks for hundreds of years. On January 18, 1965, Malcolm X was interviewed for The Young Socialist. He expressed how his fellow blacks were encountering violence but yet were supposed to remain nonviolent.

“We encourage Afro-Americans themselves to establish experimental institutes and educational workshops, liberation schools and child-care centers in Afro-American communities. He didn’t want equal opportunity employers, but instead wanted blacks to make their own job opportunities. Essentially, he wanted a nation within a nation.
“I believe we should protect ourselves by any means necessary when attacked by racists. Malcolm X was certain that the blacks needed ‘liberation schools’ and expressed this in a quote for his Basic Unity Program in 1964. lence is only preached to black Americans and I don’t go along with anyone who wants to teach our people nonviolence until someone at the same time is teaching our enemy to be nonviolent. He believed that the whites were brainwashing the blacks into mental enslavement. ” (Document #9) But some people took Malcolm X’s ideas the wrong way. But in truth, he only thought violence was necessary to defend blacks from hate crimes.
