Mark Twain

Many of our modern day writers as well as our classic writers like to use their

imaginations to dream up stories, and different settings that are much different from their daily

lives. Authors such as Stephen King and Michael Crichton are those types of authors who like to

write novels about different worlds and things that quite possibly never might happen. Other

authors like to take a different approach, and they write stories that take place around where they

live or have lived, or they incorporate experiences that have happened to them into their works of

literature. Mark Twain is an author like this. He likes to write stories that are set in places that

he has lived. He likes to have the characters experience certain things that he has experienced.

Quite possibly his most famous work of this type is Huckleberry Finn. In Mark Twain’s novel

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Twain weaves many life experiences into his work through

Huck Finn, such as growing up along the Mississippi River, and especially his feelings and

interactions with slaves; thus, a very controversial novel is created.

Mark Twain was born on November 30, 1835, in Florida, Missouri. He was born to Jane

. . .

All through out the rest of the book Jim isn’t treated very well. Twain died of heart disease , April 21, 1910, in Reading Connecticut.

In Twain’s most famous novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn we see many parts of

his life weaved into the novel. In 1947 Twain’s father died leaving him

fatherless(Discovering 1). Huck’s moral

values and how he feels about slaves have been questioned. His father was alive, but he hardly ever

saw him and he never knew where he was at. Mark Twain will probably always be thought as the

best author in history and his novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn will be read forever.

This novel has been criticized by many critics because of the many controversial aspects of

it. At the end of the book Huck risks his life to free Jim. An example of this is the following:

I was according to the old saying, “Give a nigger an inch, and he’ll

take an ell. This is normal for the time period that the book took place in, but it is not normal for

modern day time(Davy 2). The

Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is one of the greatest novels ever, written by one of the greatest

authors in history. Even though it can be looked at as one of the most controversial novels in

history it has always been read to all ages.

Mark Twain’s general reputation as one of the most admired, and possibly the most

beloved, writers in America is based, in the main, upon the work he published before 1890.
