Oedipus Rex Quote: Relation To Today

Throughout time, certain ideas just never seem to go away, as they remain in society. So as time goes on, many of the same themes and ideas are used to tell a story. For this reason, it can be said that these certain themes and ideas are universal in literature. One of these is in the play Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. Creon asks "Did he look like a man in his right mind?" In this quote, located on page 26 in Scene II of the play, Creon is asking the Choragos if Oedipus was sane when he charged Creon with the murder of King Laius. This idea of sanity is universal in literature, and in life. Therefore, this quote and the question of sanity both relate to today in respect to the O.J. Simpson case, the movie "Con Air," and the case of the Unabomber. In the O.J. Simpson case, the question of sanity was brought up, as well as in Oedipus Rex, through this quote. In this case, Simpson was accused of the murder of his former wife and Ronald Goldman. One of the questions at the beginning of the case was that if Simpson did kill the two, wa

There is no real scientific way to prove insanity, like most other diseases that can be diagnosed simply by looking at a patient and running some easily deciphered tests. In conclusion, occurrences in the movie "Con Air" relate to the quote from Oedipus Rex. Since time began, the state of being insane or mad has been one of society's great mysteries. But until then, what it really means to be sane or insane will remain a mystery. The Unabomber is a man responsible for many deaths, most by mail bombs. In summary, this quote from Oedipus Rex relates to a modern court case, that of O. So when this topic comes up in many court cases, as it does in especially murders and felonies, it is very hard to have an exact answer to the question "Was he/she sane?" Someday, it might be possible to study this disease of the mind more closely. His nickname "Unabomber" was given by the FBI. This had been going on for more than twenty years, until one of his relatives helped the police track him down. Another way in that this quote relates to modern times is in the case of the Unabomber. However, the man gets to go home to his family after the plane goes down.
