Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson's Declaration of Independence encompasses a vision that not only limits the freedom and progress of this nation's people of color; it also, promotes the idea of White Nationalism. This draft of the Declaration can be single-handedly responsible for what we now know as the American Dream. This country's forefathers left their home country in search of independence. They accomplished this, however, by infringing upon the independence and human rights of others. As we view the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence we are presented with these famous words."We hold these truths to be self evident: That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with CERTAIN [inherent and] inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness..."These words, taken literally, include every human being on American soil; these lines ultimately a
IN the midst of fleeing tyranny in Britain, they run straight into it. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world [for the truth of which we pledge a faith yet sullied by falsehood]. What Jefferson fails to acknowledge is how closely his plight and the plight of his fellow British settlers relates to those of the Native Americans and African slaves. What this country's founding fathers fail to see is how the pursuit of greed and wealth will always be challenged. "ALL HAVING [among which appears no solitary fact to contradict uniform tenor of the rest, but all have] in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. This declaration doesn't make a statement about sovereignty, it defines hypocrisy. This shows how detached these settlers were from their own reality. It is clear to see that Jefferson and his cohorts have an honest vision for success, but, it is meant entirely for white, European men. The Declaration of Independence helped propel centuries of propaganda and hollow ideals. Jefferson, in his draft, views former brothers in Great Britain as tyrants. Today our Native Americans have little to no land in many areas in the United States. These men began to sow seeds of hatred and injustice that would later flourish into a country in peril. He shared with those he helped to oppress. These actions completely negate any sincerity or good intentions that may have tried to be relayed in the Declaration.
