Summary and Response to” Local Vietnam Protester questions Kerry’s opportunism,” Philip Bloch

In the article “Local Vietnam protester questions Kerry’s opportunism,” Philip Bloch writes about Senator John Kerry wanting to be portrayed as an American hero, in order to win the presidential election. Bloch discusses his own involvement in the Vietnam War as an avid protestor. In the article, Bloch talks about President Bush and Senator John Kerry’s involvements in the Vietnam War, President Bush joining the National Guard to avoid Vietnam, and Senator Kerry joining the Navy in order to r

. . .

In the article, I am troubled about the idea when Bloch describes the men and women that did not voluntarily choose to fight in Vietnam but became drafted, as unpatriotic. Lastly Bloch concludes how Kerry did serve at a time of war, but not as an American hero. Kerry came home from the Vietnam War, and threw away his medals, which displayed how meaningless he thought his services were to the United States of America.

After reviewing the article, I have concluded that Philip Bloch has chosen and excellent main topic of Senator John Kerry wanting to be portrayed as an American hero in order to win the up coming presidential election. Bloch has no facts or evidence to support these assumptions. Also, Bloch makes assumptions that the testimony Kerry gave in front of Congress upon his dismissal from Vietnam were used by North Vietnamese to torture POWs. However, Bloch states, “During all my activities, I never felt as if I was being unpatriotic. Bloch, also states how Kerry is refusing to release his medical records because he is afraid of discrediting the American hero he has tried to portray. Bloch emphasizes on how Kerry admired and wanted to be like President John F. Bloch was involved in many illegal protests, which at one time shut down a main university administration building. In my opinion, those who were unpatriotic were the ones who went off to war blindly without questioning the purpose or necessity of the war” (Bloch). Bloch states that Kerry’s testimony he made after coming home from Vietnam was used by the North Vietnamese to torture POWs.
