Are Humans Good Or Evil?
Are Human Good Or Evil? Hobbes and Rousseau had an opposite opinion on how humans are. Are they good or are they evil? Hobbes thought that "all people are born selfish and will only seek their own interest," (Thomas Hobbes) and that " this selfishness often leads to violence and war."(Thomas Hobbes) Hobbes thought that one supreme ruler should rule all people in order to prevent ruckus. On the other hand Rousseau believes that "the natural state of humans was one of peace and harmony." (Jean-Jacques Rousseau) He thought that democracy was a reflection of our basic needs and that it was the only way to have fairness and equality. In this essay I will show you why I think neither of them is right, based on my beliefs. As I look into society today, I see many types of people. There are people from many ethnic cultures with different religions, and beliefs. Society today is very diverse, and that is why I truly cannot believe that people are either good or evil, because people have both of these traits. As humans, we live in a society that
I myself though, do not exactly know what evil is. When we do these acts our mind somehow tells us if it is good or evil. There is not anybody in this world that can say that they do the right thing every day or do the evil or wrong thing all the time, because in life we know that we control what we do. In essence, we cannot be either good or evil because we can practice both. Whether we listen to our conscience or not, we still know what we are doing. We know that walking a lady across the street is a good deed and that robbing a bank is wrong. In my political view I believe that an autocracy would not be just in an evil society because there would always be people rebelling against the ruler. On the other hand, there are companies in the world who are doing the opposite. Hence, my beliefs have shown that Hobbes and Rousseau were indeed both wrong and that there is not just one (good or evil), but both. These two situations include good and evil. Thus, that is why I cannot agree with Hobbes or Rousseau. We get this information from our parents, that teach us what society thinks good and evil is. What I do not understand is, what is evil? I think that evil is something that has been made up to give us (humans) an excuse for wrong acts that people have set out to do.
