             Are Human Good Or Evil?
             Hobbes and Rousseau had an opposite opinion on how humans are. Are they good or are they evil? Hobbes thought that "all people are born selfish and will only seek their own interest," (Thomas Hobbes) and that " this selfishness often leads to violence and war."(Thomas Hobbes) Hobbes thought that one supreme ruler should rule all people in order to prevent ruckus. On the other hand Rousseau believes that "the natural state of humans was one of peace and harmony." (Jean-Jacques Rousseau) He thought that democracy was a reflection of our basic needs and that it was the only way to have fairness and equality. In this essay I will show you why I think neither of them is right, based on my beliefs.
             As I look into society today, I see many types of people. There are people from many ethnic cultures with different religions, and beliefs. Society today is very diverse, and that is why I truly cannot believe that people are either good or evil, because people have both of these traits. As humans, we live in a society that tells us what is good and evil. We get this information from our parents, that teach us what society thinks good and evil is. As children we learn that evil is bad, and that we should never practice it, while doing a good deed is something we should do all the time. What I do not understand is, what is evil? I think that evil is something that has been made up to give us (humans) an excuse for wrong acts that people have set out to do. We look at September 11th as an "evil" doing by Osama Bin Ladin. I don't think it is evil, I believe it is hatred and jealousy that brought Osama Bin Ladin to do this. I myself though, do not exactly know what evil is. There are many different theories about evil.
