Little League
Baseball was a hobby that my father and I shared together. My father was an all star baseball player in college but never made it to the pros. My father wanted me to become the next Babe Ruth, and I wanted to be Mickey Mantle. My father and I were close and spent a lot of time together watching baseball, talking baseball and playing baseball. Baseball was our lives! Little league baseball was a fun time for me, and every year, I made the all-star team just like my father. My best friend Jason and I played on every team together. This was our last year in Little League and we were going to the State Championship. The final game of our little league career was unforgettable. It was 4 years of fun with my best friend Jason. We always fooled around in practice, however, whenever the game would start, we were serious. Jason would pitch, and I would play second base. When he wasn't pitching, I would, and he would cover third base. We were the best playe
rs in Little League, or so we thought! Our All-Star Team had made it to the State Championship. The team was on their feet in the dugout hoping for another on-base hit. As soon as the game was over, I asked my mother to drive me to the cemetery, so I could see my father. WHOO HOO!" "Who are we?" "The Heinz Paving Yankees!" yelled Jimmy, our center fielder. I know my father would have been proud of me, knowing that all of our hard work paid off. Jason was pitching a 3 hitter and I was playing well, too. Jason looked into my eyes and nodded. Playing on a team with my best friend and winning the State Championship was everything I wanted then. The team went wild and charged the mound where Jason was standing and gang tackled him with joy. Three batters stood in our way of the State Championship. I remember my father having to sit on a stack of phone books and pillows because his knees and back were not to good to help me practice my pitches. The score kept going back and forth. He was the one that got me into baseball when I was little and would spend hours with me practicing my pitching.
