◦ theme: The theme of this poem is the interplay between time, beauty, and love. He also suggests that all beauty will eventually fade, except for the beauty of this young lady and that he will not die until her beauty is no longer there.
◦ metaphor: The comparison between the young lady and a summer’s day is brought to our attention throughout the poem. Such as the “rough winds” (line 3) and the heat. I think that if this poem were to be read to any person, they’re heart would immediately melt. I think it also displays the true beauty of nature all around us and that we should be saving not destroying the environment, for without its beauty we would be nothing. He shows that the young lady is more radiant and her beauty is everlasting in comparison to the summer.
Shakespeare’s sonnets generally explore the relationships between humans and nature and the passing of time. In line 2, he states that she is more calm and beautiful than the summer, and in lines 3-6 displays some of the faults in summer.
This poem makes me think of the perfect summer day and it’s wondrous beauty, and thinking of the beauty of this young women who is more beautiful than the pure beauty of true nature.
This poem also reminds me of the internal love felt between two people that lasts forever within they’re hearts.
