Battered Men
I read the internet site entitled Violent Women - Bruised, Battered and Bewildered Men, and I found most of the information and statistics very hard to believe. For example, the site states that "Both men and women experience an equal level of domestic violence victimization, but in the most severe category the number of women being assaulted has declined, from two million to 1.8 million while the number of men assaulted has stayed at two mi
In addition, the site says that men suffer severe injuries more often than women in domestic violence encounters. For example, the site states that "the sons of violent parents have a rate of wife-beating 1000 per cent greater that those of non-violent parents". Therefore, I think that by making such a statement, the site is trying to justify, or at least provide a scapegoat for male inflicted violence. In addition, "daughters of violent parents have a husband-beating rate 600 per cent greater". The site states "the woman who slaps or throws things greatly increases her chances of being hit in return". It is not that I disagree with this information, or that I think these statistics are false, I just assumed with such an epidemic problem, there would be more public awareness. I believe this statement is problematic because it is blaming on type of abuse (male to female) on another (female to male). Finally, I think the most important message of the site is that the cycle of violence, no matter whom the batterer is and who is the victim, needs to stop before it effects the next generation. While I do not question most of the claims made on the site, I do disagree with one of the comments. Overall, I feel that this site provides a lot of good information on domestic violence in general.
