Fashion Designer

A Fashion designers design clothing and accessories. Some high-fashion designers are self-employed and design for individual clients. Other high-fashion designers cater to specialty stores or high-fashion department stores. These designers create original garments, as well as those that follow established fashion trends. Most fashion designers, however, work for apparel manufacturers, creating designs of men's, women's, and children's fashions for the mass market. They usually specialize in one fashion area. They must have good design, drawing, pattern-making and sewing skills. Fashion designers need to know about computerized sewing and cutting equipment, tailoring techniques, fabric types, colors and fabric care. You can do just about anything you want. An eye for detail, the ability to get along with clients and colleagues, and a passion for quality and beauty are important. In fashion design, employers seek individuals with a 2- or 4-year degree who are knowledgeable in the areas of textiles, fabrics, and ornamentation, as well as trends in the fashion world. It is preferable for clothing designers to have completed a certificate, diploma or degree course in clothing design. Trainees can also works towards National Certificate in clothing manufactures.
